ℹ Từ 'cải thiện' có thể dùng cho cả vật chất lẫn các khái niệm trừu tượng như kỹ năng, mối quan hệ hoặc tình hình kinh tế.

• Painting the woodwork will improve this house.
• Buying more servers would improve performance.

tận dụng

To use or employ to good purpose; to turn to profitable account.

⚠ Học sinh hay nhầm lẫn với nghĩa 'làm cho tốt hơn' (make better) và viết 'Tôi muốn cải thiện thời gian của mình' khi muốn nói 'tận dụng thời gian'. Đúng phải là 'tận dụng thời gian'.

ℹ Nghĩa này mang sắc thái cổ, trang trọng và ít dùng trong tiếng Anh hiện đại so với nghĩa 'làm cho tốt hơn'.
